My Experience with the Lumebox
I've had quite the journey with severe chronic illness, pain, and fatigue and am always looking for tools to help me to feel my best. Thankfully, the last few years I've made lots of progress in my recovery journey and am now doing really well. Learn more about my story here.
Important Note: Most of my healing from chronic illness has happened before starting red light therapy. Personally, I view red light therapy as more of a supportive tool than something that will completely fix or cure ailments. It is not necessary for healing but can absolutely be supportive of healing!
The last few months, I've used my Lumebox almost every day and have found it to be very helpful with sleep, managing stress, and energy levels.
One of my favorite ways to use it is with the infrared setting on right before going to sleep. I lay on my side and hold it about six inches away from my face—while keeping my eyes closed. The light has such a calming effect and helps my brain to wind down. Often I find myself drifting off to sleep with it on (thankfully it turns off on it's own).
Another way I like to use it is with the red and infrared setting on at the same time. I set it up on the stand and face the light for several minutes, then I'll turn around and have it on my neck and back.
Because of a cervical fusion I had years ago, I tend to hold tension in my neck and shoulders. I've found red light therapy to be helpful with this!
If I have muscle aches or migraines, which thankfully aren't common for me anymore, I'll use it in targeted areas. A few weeks ago I got a migraine for the first time in months, and using the Lumebox really softened the pain. It's also great for the abdomen and can help with digestion. Sometimes my stomach gurgles when I shine the red light on it!
All in all, I love my Lumebox. Could I live without it? Yes. But am I grateful I do have it? Absolutely.
I'd recommend it to anyone that looking for an effective and powerful"biohacking" tool as long as it's within their budget!
Does Lumebox offer any discounts?
Yes! Lumebox has generously offered my community $260 off through this link (no coupon code needed). This is such a great savings from the full price on their website!
Are there any "cons" to the Lumebox?
Honestly, the thing that bothers me the most about the Lumebox is that the power light is a blue light. I wish the power and light settings were red lights also! To me it seems silly to have a light that is helpful for circadian health that has a blue light on it (albeit, very small).
This was not a deal breaker for me because the Lumebox has exceeded my expectations in every other category. I got some blackout tape to put over the power light so that it doesn't potentially disrupt my sleep when using it at night. It's also very easy to cover up with your hand if you're holding it.
Another potential "con" is that some people may prefer a bigger red light panel than the Lumebox. I actually love the compact size. It may be small, but it's very powerful!
What are the different settings on the Lumebox?
These are the different settings on the Lumebox:
Red light
Near-infrared light (NIR)
Combined red & near-infrared light
According to their website, the biggest difference between red and near-infrared (NIR) light is that NIR has been shown to penetrate more deeply. Because of this, the red light setting is better for skin issues and the NIR setting is better for deeper tissues like muscles and joints. They recommend using both at the same time for maximum effectiveness!
Because the red light is so bright, I often just use the infrared setting at night time if I'm trying to go to sleep. But I've found the combination of both at the same time to be very powerful.
Do you need to wear eye protection while using the Lumebox?
It's recommended to always wear eye protection when using the Lumebox 2.0. They include protective goggles with each device! Never stare directly into the LEDs.
Some people find they do really well with just closing their eyes (instead of the goggles) to protect them. Be sure to do your own research and do what's best for you!
Does red light therapy work through clothing?
Red light therapy is most effective when in direct contact with the skin (no clothing).
Is the Lumebox considered to be low EMF?
Yes, it is! This is one of the top reasons I chose the Lumebox over similar alternatives. Read the excerpt below to learn more about how Lumebox has tested for EMF on their products.
What is the warranty and return policy?
Lumebox has a limited warranty for one year that covers any sort of defects in the product. You also have 30 days to return it if you aren't satisfied for any reason (as long as it's still in like new condition)!
In Conclusion
The Lumebox is an excellent red light therapy device that's powerful, portable, and low EMF. I've found red light therapy to be impactful for improving my sleep, circadian rhythm, and energy levels. There are so many amazing benefits of red light therapy and it's a great tool to have if it's something within your budget.
